Schmidty Wood Works was built from a lifelong passion for creating and improving the spaces people call home.

Founder Nicholas Schmidt discovered his love for carpentry at a young age — drawn to the process of building, shaping, and bringing ideas to life. After completing carpentry school in Boston, MA, he began working as a carpenter’s assistant, gaining hands-on experience that would lay the foundation for nearly 10 + years in residential construction.

In 2024, after life led him to Tampa, Schmidty Wood Works officially came to life. What began as home repairs quickly evolved into specialized finished carpentry, finely crafted woodworking, and even handcrafted luxury dog beds — blending precision craftsmanship with personality.

At Schmidty Wood Works, the mission is simple: turn clients’ ideas into innovative, functional, and beautifully built realities. Whether it’s restoring a home back to working standard or creating something completely unique, every project is approached with integrity, quality, and attention to detail.

Nicholas brings not only skill and experience to the table, but heart. He loves tackling new, creative challenges — and he has a soft spot for animals, especially his two dogs who run the household like executives. Around here, craftsmanship matters… but so does character.

Don't let the fluffy exterior fool you — Oreo has personally inspected every dog bed that's left this shop and has yet to sign off on anything less than exceptional.

His standards are simple: if it doesn't pass the nap test, it doesn't pass at all. Every curve, every joint, every finish gets the same scrutiny — because Oreo understands better than anyone that a bed isn't just furniture, it's a dog's kingdom.

Coco Medina Schmidt - Chief Operating Officer*

A sharp-minded Bichon-Poodle with executive taste, Coco has inspired projects from behind the scenes with precision, timing, and just the right amount of flair.

As COO, he ensures daily tasks are completed promptly and tailored exactly to customer preferences — no shortcuts, no excuses, no late deliveries (unless it’s nap-related).

Coco firmly believes productivity is powered by strategic rest, insisting on scheduled naps to maintain peak performance levels. Efficiency matters. You may have the pleasure of meeting coco on your in person estimate with Nick.
